How to install a new hot water heater

If you find your current hot water heater is no longer providing satisfactory hot water or if it needs to be replaced, there are a few steps you will need to take in order to get the new heater installed. The most common installation process is as follows:

1. Turn off the main power to the property by shutting off the breaker or flipping the switch at the main entry.

2. Remove the old water heater by unscrewing all of its mounting screws and pulling it out from under your sink.

3. Determine where you would like the new water heater installed and mark the location on the floor or wall using a pencil or chalk. If replacing an existing water heater, measure from beneath your sink and make sure to allow enough space for the overflow tank and pipe run.

4. Install a temporary bracket in place of the old water heater while you remove it and then drill pilot holes through both brackets into the studs of your wall or floor joist using a drill bit that is slightly larger than your new water heater’s mounting screws. Make sure not to over-tighten these screws as this could damage your wall or floor surface!

5. Install your new water heater onto these pilot holes by screwing it into place using its mounting screws. Be sure to tighten these screws until they are snug but do not overdo it as this could damage your new water heater!

6. Replace any damaged drywall or ceiling tiles around your new water heater  with new tiles.
